Are you planning to buy a used iPhone in Carousell or Facebook Marketplace?
Well, make sure you check these items first and ensure these are working before sending your payment.
1. Physical check
- Can you turn off/on or restart the iPhone?
- Check the side buttons: volume, power, silent
- Check the sim tray (for signs of water damage)
- Check the camera (front and back) for scratches
2. Screen
- Check for dead pixels: use this YouTube video
- Check for True Tone: is it working? Go to Settings » Display and Brightness » True Tone
3. Check inside the Settings
- Battery health: Should be 90% or higher
- Serial number: make sure it doesn’t start with an “F”, that means it’s refurbished
- Warranty
- Check IMEI number (Use Swappa to validate IMEI)
- SIM card: is it locked or openline?
- Check if iCloud activation is locked or disabled
4. Check basic functions
- Camera modes: Normal, Wide angle, Portrait shots
- Camera shutter speed (if it’s really slow, something is wrong)
- Browse websites: use Safari
- Search an app
- Check App Store
- Open Maps (try zooming in and out)
- Check mobile internet and use mobile data
- Check for WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity
- Check speakers: play YouTube videos
- Check microphones and front speaker (try calling someone)
- Open FaceTime and call someone
If all of these are okay, try to reset the iPhone to erase all the content.
Then login using your Apple ID.
Enjoy your iPhone!
